NAWOJ FCT URGES WOMEN TO TAKE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES AGAINST COVID-19 IN THIS YULETIDE. 

 

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter has called on all women,as well as older persons in the country to intensify efforts in taking precautionary measures and total compliance to covid-19 protocols especially in this Yuletide season to avoid being hit by the pandemic.

This is contained in a press statement co signed by the Chairperson, Comrade Ann Daniel and secretary of the Association Comrade Nkiru Nnoli Okeke respectively in Abuja.According to them, this has become necessary following the announcement of Presidential Task Force (PTF) that Nigeria is now facing a rise in confirmed cases of Covid-19 which is translated to be the second wave of infections nationwide.

The statement explained the need for self responsibility in curbing the menace as the issues of health and its challenges affects women,children and older persons mostly.

 

“Women should be more conscious of their wards both boy and girl child,how they conduct themselves during this season to avoid being infected and also guard against rape and abuse of their wards.”The PTF has also surveyed developments and actions taken by governments around the world, assessed our domestic environment and has accordingly submitted its recommendations to Mr. President on immediate measures to be taken. “Accordingly, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has authorised the PTF to engage with the States and the FCT to assume full ownership of this stage of the response by deploying legal structures and resources, including enforcement to manage the pandemic within their jurisdictions. The duo also added that in line with the authorisation, the PTF has issued advisories to sub-national entities for implementation over the next five weeks because some activities especially this Yuletide season are considered super spreaders,so is important we adhere strictly to the new measures given as Lagos,Kaduna and FCT have emerged as the new epicenters during this period with over 70% of all confirmed cases.

The statement further called on Nigerians to shun every form of violence and embrace peace in this festive season of love,while praying that the reason for the season which is about the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will bring an end to all the Challenges being faced in the country.
